How It Works

Porous bass traps absorb sound most effectively when placed at a distance of λ/4 (quarter wavelength) from the wall, where particle velocity is maximum. For an 80 Hz wave: λ = 343/80 = 4.29m, so λ/4 = 1.07m (42"). Corners are optimal because they are pressure maxima for all axial modes. A practical approach: use the thickest traps you can afford/fit (minimum 4" rigid fiberglass, ideally 6-12") and fill all vertical corners first, then tri-corners (wall-ceiling junctions).
