How It Works
Sound isolation follows the mass law: TL = 20·log10(m·f) - 47.3 dB, where m is surface density (kg/m²) and f is frequency. Doubling mass adds ~6 dB. Decoupled double-leaf walls (air gap with insulation) can add 10-20 dB beyond mass law. Standard drywall (12.7mm) ≈ 10 kg/m². Studio target: STC 50-60 for music rooms. Key principle: mass-air-mass with decoupled framing beats a single thick wall. Green Glue between drywall layers converts vibration to heat.
