How It Works

Room modes are resonant frequencies where sound waves bounce between parallel surfaces and reinforce themselves, creating standing waves. The formula f = c/(2L) × n gives axial modes for each dimension, where c is the speed of sound (343 m/s), L is the dimension length, and n is the mode number. Tangential modes involve two pairs of walls, and oblique modes involve all three pairs. Treating room modes below 300 Hz with bass traps and diffusers is critical for accurate monitoring.
