How It Works
The Nyquist theorem states you need at least 2× the highest frequency as your sample rate. CD quality (44.1 kHz) captures up to 22.05 kHz. Bit depth determines dynamic range: DR = 6.02×bits + 1.76 dB. So 16-bit = 98 dB, 24-bit = 146 dB. For recording, 24-bit/48 kHz is the sweet spot — enough dynamic range to avoid clipping while keeping file sizes manageable. Higher sample rates (96/192 kHz) benefit analog-modeled plugins but double/quadruple file sizes.
